Organization and funding

Organization

ECRIN is a "distributed research infrastructure (RI)" - a distinct organization that links research centers in multiple locations in countries across Europe and provides clinical research services.

Country collaboration is achieved through a unique organization with a core team from Paris, European correspondents (EuCos) from each member or observer country, and national research partners (the Clinical Trial Unit Network - CTU).

Funding

The organization's operation relies on funding from contributions from member countries and observers. These funds are primarily used to support the organization and develop its core competencies to enable operational support for international clinical research.

Financial support from individual countries does not cover costs incurred in connection with specific research projects to develop new tools and procedures or international clinical trials in which study management services are provided. These projects are funded by grants from European funding bodies (e.g., Horizon 2020, Innovative Medicines Initiative - IMI 2, Framework Program 6, Framework Program 7) and services provided to pharmaceutical industry sponsors.
